Week in Review 2
Welcome to the second installment of our Week in Review! Last week started slowly as Evan and I both got colds, and he was out for the count for a bit. Then, over the weekend, we had some eggsciting things happen!
Monday
Evan fogged for bugs in the afternoon. We put the cats in the house during this process so they chemicals couldn’t not hurt them. This cuts down on some of the bugs, but it only kills the ones that are actively flying around in it.
Our Sunset views Monday night.
Tuesday
Ugh colds are no fun! Especially, when trying to run. Evan worked super late on Tuesday, so no projects to do.
Wednesday
After a super long work day for me, the highlight of the evening was this Millie siting!
Our ducks love every body of water on the farm EXCEPT for the pond. Here, they are snoozing around the dog’s water bowl. They love puddles, the swimming pool and dog bowls.
Thursday
Thursday was another really long day at work for me. I got home and did not have the energy for anything! I did get our photo essay of Arthur’s Seat up on the blog! Click HERE to take a look!
Friday
Friday was a no work day for everyone! I felt better and got a run done in the morning as well as our How to Can Dill Pickles post! Evan and his dad ran some errands and we got over 2 inches of rain while they were gone!
Saturday
Saturday started with my best run since we’ve been on the farm! WooHoo! Evan and his dad drove to Atlanta and back, so they were gone the whole day.
I decided to check on our mean hen and the two fluffy boys in the main coop. I looked in and saw the mean hen sitting on the ground. She had 5 eggs left in her nest, but the 6th one was broken. Not thinking, I took two of the eggs inside to candle, then put them in the incubator. I started thinking, hen on the ground… broken egg… and ran back out to the coop! TWO little bitty chicks were on the ground under the mean hen! So eggsciting!
Since she is a good momma, albeit a mean momma, I needed reinforcements. Kayla was kind enough to come catch the hen, and we grabbed her babies and the rest of her eggs and put them all together in the enclosed brooder house.
Of course, all of the other bantams wanted a photo shoot too!
All of the chickens love watermelon, but the silkies top feathers get matted down in the juicy fruit! We need to give them some headbands!
More Millie sitings! We saw her several times during the week, but several times it was too dark to take a picture. At night, we take the flashlight and shine through the fields. There were at least 5 out eating pears one night 🙂
Sunday
End of another weekend. Both chicks made it through the night! We picked the garden, regraded in front of the barn and then rested for a good part of the afternoon!
I love this video of the chicks playing peekaboo!!
When it rains, water pours into the barn from several different areas. Evan regraded some of the ground in front of the barn trying to keep the water from flowing in from this direction.
I think Copper and Nora are finally becoming friends!
Another successful week on the farm! We don’t have set plans for this week either, as it will depend on how Evan is feeling! There are 3 eggs waiting in the incubator, so hopefully we will get a few more chicks!
Happy start to your week!
